About the role

The Hamilton Fire Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join as Volunteer Probationary Firefighters. This role supports community safety through fire protection, rescue, inspection and public education while working alongside a diverse team of professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fire ground operations, including search, rescue, fire suppression and overhaul under supervisor direction.
• Conduct rescue operations, stabilize victims, and ensure safe egress.
• Operate fire apparatus safely in compliance with traffic regulations.
• Provide first aid and prepare patients for transport to medical facilities.
• Inspect fire apparatus and equipment to maintain readiness and safety.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent and residence within the volunteer response area.
• Ability to meet collective‑agreement performance levels, attend weekly training and respond to emergency calls.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence (zero demerit points) and ability to obtain a Class “DZ” licence.
• Physical strength and agility to perform demanding firefighting and rescue duties.
