About the role
Project Skate Hockey Club is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to teach basic hockey skills to low‑income youth in Brampton. As a Volunteer Hockey Instructor you will introduce children to skating, stickhandling, passing and shooting while fostering a supportive, inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Teach fundamental hockey techniques, including skating, stickhandling, passing and shooting.
- Create a positive, encouraging learning atmosphere for beginners.
- Promote teamwork, respect and sportsmanship during all sessions.
- Adapt drills and instruction to match each participant’s skill level.
- Communicate progress and feedback to participants and their families.
- Monitor safety on and off the ice, following all safety protocols.
- Assist youth with fitting and managing their hockey equipment.
Required profile
- Passion for hockey and a desire to share it with others.
- Experience working with children or youth, especially in a sports setting (preferred).
- Patience, adaptability and strong communication skills.
- Commitment to an inclusive environment for all backgrounds.
- Successful vulnerable sector/background check before starting.
- Hockey coaching certification (e.g., Respect in Sport or NCCP) is an asset.
