Vice-President, Research – Canada‑Asia Relations

About the role

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is seeking a Vice‑President, Research to steer its research and programming agenda at a pivotal time for Canada‑Asia engagement. Reporting to the President and CEO, the role will shape the Foundation’s five‑year strategic framework into an integrated annual plan.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Research and Programs portfolio across Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Singapore.
• Translate strategic objectives into research projects, policy engagement, convenings and talent development initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with government officials, business leaders, academics, media and other stakeholders in Canada and the Indo‑Pacific.
• Serve as a public spokesperson and media commentator on Canada‑Asia issues.
• Oversee a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, intellectual rigour and excellence.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a research‑driven organization, think‑tank, academic institution, government agency or relevant private sector.
• Deep knowledge of Canada‑Asia economic, geopolitical and policy dynamics.
• Strategic thinker with strong judgment and the ability to turn complex issues into actionable insights.
• Extensive network across Canada and the Indo‑Pacific and demonstrated partnership‑building skills.
• Exceptional communication abilities, comfortable speaking publicly and engaging with media.
