Urban Research, Data & Policy Internship

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) Montreal Office is seeking an intern to support research, data collection and policy analysis that advance sustainable urban development. Working under the Programme Management Officer, the intern will contribute to evidence‑based advice on housing, land use, mobility and climate‑linked urban resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in quantitative and qualitative research projects, including metric identification, data gathering from official and non‑official sources, and analysis.
• Prepare presentations and visualisations of research findings for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to evidence‑based policy formulation on sustainable urbanisation in Canada and globally.
• Support knowledge‑sharing activities with partners, networks, and UN‑Habitat events.
• Develop and maintain databases related to urban sustainability metrics.
• Undertake additional tasks as defined jointly with the team.

Required profile

• Must be enrolled in a graduate programme relevant to urban studies, planning, geography, environmental science, public policy or a related field at the time of application.
