Traditional and Holistic Wellness Specialist

About the role

Seabird Island is seeking a Traditional and Holistic Wellness Specialist to design and deliver culturally‑centered wellness programs for community members. Reporting to the Director of Health and Social Development, the role blends Indigenous knowledge with modern health practices to support emotional, spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, evaluation, development and implementation of wellness programs that reflect First Nations values and holistic health practices.
• Design individual wellness plans and ensure services incorporate culturally appropriate treatments.
• Facilitate healing circles, plant walks, workshops, elder and coming‑of‑age events, and other community gatherings.
• Provide cultural training and guidance to staff, families and community members to ensure respectful delivery of services.
• Offer mentorship, consultation on protocols, ceremonies and traditional practices, and provide ceremonial support as needed.
• Engage clients using a trauma‑informed, person‑centered approach to promote balanced wellbeing.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working with First Nations communities and a deep understanding of Indigenous healing traditions.
• Ability to develop, evaluate and manage community‑based wellness programs.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills for workshops, circles and educational sessions.
• Commitment to cultural safety, inclusivity and trauma‑informed practice.
