Tax Accountant

About the role

Orientum is seeking a Tax Accountant to join its advisory team and support Canadian startups and growth‑stage companies with tax compliance, planning, and advisory services. The role involves close collaboration with the accounting and Virtual CFO teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and proactive tax strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file Canadian corporate (T2), personal (T1), trust, and partnership tax returns.
• Prepare and review GST/HST, payroll, and other indirect tax filings.
• Assist with tax planning and year‑end tax compliance for business owners.
• Research Canadian tax legislation and provide practical tax recommendations.
• Respond to CRA notices, reviews, and audit queries.
• Work closely with the accounting team to ensure accurate year‑end financial information.
• Support SR&ED tax credit engagements from a tax compliance perspective.
• Identify tax‑saving opportunities and proactively advise clients.
• Review bookkeeping records to ensure tax compliance and accuracy.
• Prepare tax provisions and year‑end working papers where required.
• Communicate directly with clients to gather information and explain tax matters.
• Maintain client deadlines and ensure timely filing of all returns.
• Stay current with changes to Canadian tax laws and CRA policies.
• Collaborate with Virtual CFO and advisory teams on client engagements.
• Contribute to process improvements and help build scalable tax workflows.

Required profile

• CPA designated or actively pursuing CPA designation.
• At least 2 years of Canadian tax accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Income Tax Act and Excise Tax Act.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
