Student Librarian - Office Assistant B

About the role

The Student Librarian – Office Assistant B will work under the supervision of a library head and the liaison librarian team to provide reference services to McGill students, faculty and other library users. The role combines on‑site desk support with virtual assistance through chat, email and text, and involves participation in special projects and learning‑object design.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patrons at the Reference Desk in locating, accessing and using library resources.
• Provide virtual reference support via LibAnswers chat, email and text messages.
• Support librarians in teaching workshops and delivering outreach or orientation activities.
• Contribute to special projects such as collection development, creating LibGuides, and organizing exhibits.
• Collaborate on the design of learning objects and other library initiatives.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in the MISt program at the School of Information Studies or a graduate student with an MISt degree.
• Experience in reference, public service or library settings is an asset.
• Familiarity with information technology applications in libraries and McGill digital resources.
• Reliability and flexibility to cover shifts.
• Fluent oral and written communication in English and French.

What we offer

• Part‑time fixed‑term contract (15 hours per week) from 20 September 2026 to 1 May 2027.
• Hourly wage of $22.11.
