Software Engineer – ETL & Data Integration

About the role

Join a purpose‑driven, high‑performing team within a Canadian banking engineering group. As a Software Engineer focused on ETL development, you will design, build, and modernize enterprise‑grade data integration platforms that power large‑scale data transformation programs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support scalable ETL/data pipelines using Talend and Apache Spark.
• Migrate legacy ETL workloads to modern frameworks such as Spark.
• Build and optimise batch and distributed data processing pipelines.
• Analyse performance bottlenecks (CPU, memory, I/O) and implement tuning strategies.
• Develop reusable ETL frameworks, components, and orchestration patterns.
• Implement data ingestion, transformation, and quality checks for structured and semi‑structured sources.
• Maintain complex SQL transformations, stored procedures, and data models.
• Integrate pipelines with enterprise systems via Kafka, MQ, APIs, and batch orchestration tools.
• Ensure data integrity, lineage, reconciliation, and auditability.
• Collaborate with architecture, engineering, database, and infrastructure teams on target‑state platforms and migration approaches.
• Mentor junior developers and enforce coding standards, version control, and CI/CD practices.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Talend ETL development.
• Proficiency in Apache Spark (PySpark or Scala) for large‑scale processing.
• Solid Unix/Linux scripting skills for orchestration and automation.
• Experience with relational databases (DB2, Oracle or similar) and advanced SQL.
• Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka or MQ and API integration.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams.
