Software Engineer 2 – Ads Engineering

About the role

eBay is reinventing its advertising platform and is looking for a Software Engineer 2 to join the Ads Engineering team. In this backend role you will collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists and other engineers to build scalable advertising services that power sponsored listings, targeting, campaign management and reporting for millions of users worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy distributed backend systems and APIs for eBay Ads.
• Build high‑performance data pipelines and real‑time services that deliver ads efficiently.
• Work closely with product, analytics, QA and operations teams to meet goals for scalability, reliability, latency and user experience.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design and code reviews, and agile development ceremonies.
• Research and evaluate technical options to solve complex engineering and business problems.
• Promote engineering excellence through best practices in coding, testing, observability and operational readiness.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented design and distributed systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java.
