Shop Assistant - Heavy Truck Maintenance

About the role

Manitoulin Transport, which has provided transportation and logistics solutions across North America for 65 years, is looking for a hardworking and dependable Shop Assistant to support its team of heavy-duty technicians. This hands-on position keeps the shop clean, organized and efficient, helping with mechanical tasks, shop organization, parts management and safety practices. It is based in Calgary.

Key responsibilities

• Wash and detail heavy trucks, trailers and shop equipment, including degreasing, polishing and preparing units for inspection
• Shunt trucks in and out of the shop safely and promptly, sweep, pressure wash and dispose of waste, and perform yard checks and outdoor maintenance as needed
• Run parts to suppliers and dealerships, stage parts for technicians, receive and organize shipments, manage inventory and restock consumables
• Handle basic shipping and receiving tasks
• Move tools, hold components and assist with day-to-day mechanical work, including fluid checks, replacing lights and filters, minor adjustments and carpentry such as repairing decking
• Follow all safety protocols and report hazards

Required profile

• Valid Class 5 driver's licence (Class 1 or 3 is an asset)
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Mechanical aptitude and interest in heavy-duty truck maintenance
• Strong work ethic, ability to follow instructions and capacity for physically demanding work
• Previous experience in a truck or diesel repair environment is an asset

Required skills

• Forklift or shop equipment experience is an asset
• Basic mechanical work under supervision (fluid checks, light and filter replacement, minor adjustments, carpentry)
