Sessional Lecturer – Probability and Statistics 1

About the role

The University of Toronto Mississauga seeks a motivated Sessional Lecturer to teach STA256H5F LEC101 Probability and Statistics 1 for the Fall 2026 term. This emergent posting offers an opportunity to deliver a core undergraduate course to a large cohort of students.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver lectures covering probability distributions, expectation, random variables, limit theorems and the central limit theorem.
• Design and conduct tutorials, assignments, tests and develop marking schemes.
• Provide regular office hours and respond to student inquiries via email.
• Invigilate the final examination, manage grading, and submit final course grades.
• Address student petitions and, if required, create and grade make‑up examinations.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Statistics (completed or near completion). Exceptional candidates with a Master’s in Statistics may be considered.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of probability and statistical modelling through research or teaching experience.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication abilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth understanding of probability theory and statistical modelling concepts.
• Ability to develop clear instructional materials and assessments.

What we offer

• Compensation of $15,000 for the half‑course appointment (inclusive of vacation pay).
