Senior/Lead PHP Engineer (with AI Skills)

About the role

We are seeking a mature Senior/Lead PHP Engineer with deep Laravel expertise and hands‑on experience building or integrating agentic AI systems. You will own complex backend features end‑to‑end, mentor other engineers and help shape AI‑driven automation within our product and internal workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust backend services and APIs using PHP and Laravel.
• Own features from technical design through deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Integrate and orchestrate agentic AI workflows (LLM‑based agents, tool‑calling pipelines, autonomous task runners) into existing products or internal tooling.
• Improve system performance, reliability and security across the stack.
• Stay current with the PHP/Laravel ecosystem and emerging agentic AI tools and patterns.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional PHP development experience.
• 4+ years building applications with Laravel (or comparable modern PHP framework).
• Solid database expertise with MySQL or PostgreSQL, including query optimisation and schema design.
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and cloud deployment on AWS, GCP or similar.
• Hands‑on experience with Generative AI – building with LLM APIs, tool/function calling, retrieval or agent frameworks.
• Strong communication skills, English at least Upper‑Intermediate, and ability to work independently in the EDT (Toronto) time zone.
