Senior Underwriting Consultant, High Net Worth

About the role

Manulife is hiring a highly tenured Senior Underwriting Consultant for its High Net Worth team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates in any Canadian province, and it is an existing vacancy. You will own complex, meaningful underwriting decisions for high-net-worth customers, using innovative underwriting tools and technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with sales and head office colleagues to give high-quality, competitive decisions to high-net-worth customers.
• Conduct risk assessment and classification according to Manulife's philosophy and standards.
• Maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners and deliver an excellent customer experience.
• Align with consumer laws and regulations on risk classification, confidentiality and disclosure.
• Identify and propose solutions to problems and procedures related to the underwriter's work.

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience.
• $5,000,000+ life signing authority.
• Experience and exposure in the high net worth market, with a sales and relationship-focused mindset.
• Working towards, or having completed, FALU, FLMI and ACS designations.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology (physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostics, treatments) and how non-medical risks affect mortality (hazardous occupations, sports, avocations, lifestyle).
• Experience with financial reports and training in anti-money laundering practices.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset; for candidates in Québec, proficiency in both languages is required.
• Preferred: university or college degree in a related discipline, 100,000+ CI authority, negotiation skills, interest in external presentations, and experience in co-signing, referral reviews or mentoring.
