Senior Software Engineer – Sanctions Service & AI Inference

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a senior software engineer to join its AI & Decision Product Enablement team in Vancouver. The role will focus on building high‑performance services for sanctions screening and applying AI‑assisted development practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, secure, high‑performance software solutions for sanctions screening.
• Drive technical design and implementation of new product capabilities and platform improvements.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design through production support.
• Lead technical discussions, conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, perform root‑cause analysis and drive resolutions.
• Mentor and coach engineers, sharing knowledge and providing hands‑on leadership.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional product, compliance and operations teams to meet security and regulatory requirements.
• Improve system resiliency, scalability, operational excellence and cloud readiness.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering experience with Java and modern application development frameworks.
• Proven ability to design and build scalable, highly available distributed systems.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and technical design skills.
• Experience with automated testing and software quality practices.
• Deep understanding of software reliability, performance and security principles.
• Demonstrated mentorship and technical leadership capabilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
