Software Engineering Manager – Sanctions Service

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to lead the development and evolution of its Sanctions Screening solutions. The role combines deep technical involvement with people leadership, guiding a high‑performing team of engineers to deliver secure, real‑time sanctions risk assessments for financial institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own technical direction, architecture, and delivery strategy for the Sanctions Service platform built primarily in Java and C++.
• Lead design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions that meet enterprise standards.
• Drive engineering excellence through design reviews, code quality, operational readiness, and modernization initiatives.
• Define and execute an AI‑assisted engineering strategy, leveraging AI tools to improve delivery, testing, documentation, and workflow automation while establishing responsible AI governance.
• Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers, fostering an inclusive and psychologically safe culture, and partnering with recruiting to attract top talent.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams and delivering large‑scale enterprise solutions.
• Strong technical background designing distributed, highly available systems.
• Ability to balance hands‑on technical leadership with people‑management responsibilities.
• Experience managing product roadmaps, business priorities, engineering deliverables, and technical risks.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience with Agile development and modern engineering practices.
