Senior Software Engineer - Cloud Gateway

About the role

The Internet of Things (IoT) and Streaming Team is looking for senior software engineers to build and operate the Cloud Gateway Platform that connects vehicles to the cloud. You will design highly scalable, low‑latency distributed systems that handle remote commands, asset state, streaming and batch data acquisition, and fleet orchestration.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy distributed applications for the Cloud Gateway Platform with a focus on scalability, reliability and performance.
• Work with event‑driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka and Redis to build fault‑tolerant systems.
• Implement, monitor and debug services on AWS, ensuring high availability and low latency.
• Manage message brokers, streaming and queuing solutions, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges and production incidents.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation to address critical issues outside regular hours.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field.
• At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Ability to work on‑site in Yaletown, Vancouver three days per week and remotely two days.
• Willingness to participate in a rotating on‑call schedule, including occasional weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Strong foundation in software engineering and distributed systems design.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust and Python for production‑grade applications.
• Experience with AWS and cloud‑native patterns.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Kafka, Redis, DynamoDB, RDS, DocumentDB or MongoDB.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Datadog and Amazon CloudWatch.
• Version control using Git and CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
• Understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
