Senior Project Engineer - Baggage Handling Systems

About the role

BNP Associates, Inc., a global leader in air transportation consulting and engineering, needs a Senior Project Engineer to work on-site at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The role supports the company's baggage handling systems (BHS) program for a high-touch client account, where a consistent, professional on-site presence is essential. It is best suited to someone local to the Greater Toronto Area or able to relocate, as remote or fly-in coverage is impractical.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the on-site field engineering presence for BHS installation, testing and commissioning at YYZ.
• Conduct functional assessments of BHS and related systems and document findings for the project team and client.
• Perform site inspections, field surveys and equipment tests, and support construction management tasks.
• Assist with punch list resolution and provide start-up and commissioning support.
• Develop and review CAD drawings, engineering designs, specifications and technical reports.
• Support RFI responses and coordinate with designers, directors and the Senior Project Manager on required documentation.
• Run and review system simulations and verify compliance with project requirements.
• Represent BNP professionally with the client and contractors on-site, and coordinate daily priorities with the Senior Project Manager / Site Support Lead.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent field experience).
• 5+ years of field or project engineering experience, ideally in BHS, aviation or airport infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience with functional assessments, field surveys, inspections and equipment tests.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the professionalism to deal with a detail-oriented, high-expectation client.
• Based in, or able to relocate to, the Greater Toronto Area, with the ability to be on-site at YYZ daily or near-daily.
• Able to pass criminal background checks and obtain and maintain airport security credentials (RAIC).
• EIT or progress toward P.Eng. preferred but not required.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
• Preferred: AutoCAD or Revit, prior BHS or automated material handling experience, background in ground handling, logistics or airport operations, and experience with large-scale hub airport programs.

The role is primarily on-site at the airport with minimal remote work, in a standard 40-hour week with occasional extra time for deadlines. Salary: C$95,000 - C$125,000 CAD.
