Senior EHS Specialist - Nuclear & Industrial Projects

About the role

A highly certified and experienced Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is sought to lead safety, environmental protection and regulatory compliance across nuclear, manufacturing and power generation facilities. The role is on-site and involves developing programs, overseeing operations and building a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain EHS programs and procedures in line with federal, provincial and site-specific regulations (CNSC, CSA, OSHA, MOE)
• Run frequent field audits, inspections and behavioural observations to find hazards and check that corrective actions work
• Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis (RCA) and put in place preventive measures
• Deliver EHS training on radiological safety, lockout/tagout, chemical safety and fall protection
• Act as the main technical contact for EHS matters, advising project management and field staff
• Oversee environmental aspects such as waste characterization, storage and disposal, air permitting and spill prevention plans
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permit applications and internal performance metrics

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related scientific field
• At least 5 years of direct EHS experience; nuclear, power generation or heavy manufacturing/industrial backgrounds preferred
• Certification such as CSP, CIH or ROH highly preferred
• Experience in radiological safety programs is a significant asset
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearances

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of regulations and standards such as NSCA, CNSC, Ontario OHSA, EPA and ISO 14001/45001
• Root cause analysis and incident investigation
• Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
