Senior Casualty Claims Specialist

About the role

Aviva Business Insurance (ABI) is looking for a liability claims professional to join its claims team. The role covers investigating, evaluating and settling auto business insurance and commercial general liability casualty claims, working with claimants, brokers and defence counsel, and includes pre-litigation, litigation and out-of-province files.

Key responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer and stakeholder communication on claim matters and superior service to clients and partners
• Settle auto BI and commercial general liability casualty claims, including pre-litigation, litigation and out-of-province files
• Work with defence counsel on litigation files to resolve them efficiently
• Deal directly with key clients and brokers on claim issues
• Confirm coverage using knowledge of case law and policy wording, and set file reserves accurately and on time
• Control expenses proactively and review third-party adjuster reports to manage costs
• Direct vendors and TPAs to adjust claims in line with company policies
• Report suspected fraud and suggest improvements to the customer journey and claims processes

Required profile

• 5+ years of previous claims experience, including 2+ years in commercial claims
• Strong knowledge of casualty/personal lines; CIP industry designation preferred
• University degree or college diploma, or equivalent casualty technical work experience
• Demonstrated experience interacting with clients
• Atlantic adjuster licence or ability to obtain one is an asset

• Technical competence in commercial insurance
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Strong decision-making, problem-solving and prioritisation of a high-volume workload
• Understanding of the financial elements of the claims function
