Senior Backend Developer

About the role

Sangoma is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to design and build scalable, high‑availability services that power its UCaaS product suite. This fully remote position supports teams across the eastern and central time zones and focuses on delivering reliable cloud‑native APIs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain distributed APIs and backend services with a strong emphasis on security and reliability.
• Operate and improve the Sangoma Meet Cloud platform to meet SLA targets and 24/7 availability.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers and cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure seamless API integration.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, and enhance user experience.
• Participate in architectural discussions and help shape the technology roadmap.
• Mentor junior developers and promote a culture of continuous learning.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Rust and Nix.
• Experience with Git and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• Hands‑on experience building Linux‑based services in cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, WebSockets, and HTTPS.
• Familiarity with relational databases.
• Ability to work with services written in Node.js and Java.
