Senior Backend Developer

About the role

Sangoma is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to design and implement robust, scalable backend systems for its UCaaS product suite. This fully remote position supports teams in the Eastern or Central time zones and focuses on high‑availability cloud services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain distributed APIs and backend services with strong security and reliability.
• Operate and improve the Sangoma Meet Cloud platform to meet SLA targets and 24/7 availability.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers and cross‑functional stakeholders for seamless API integration.
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure excellent user experience.
• Participate in architectural discussions and help shape the technology roadmap.
• Mentor junior developers and promote a learning culture.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, fast‑moving environment.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Rust and Nix.
• Experience with Git and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• Hands‑on experience building Linux‑based services in cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, WebSockets, and HTTPS.
• Familiarity with relational databases.
• Experience collaborating with services written in Node.js and Java.
