Senior Associate Software Engineer - Applied AI

About the role

Amgen's Applied AI team, part of the AI & Data Science organization, builds LLM-powered AI assistants and Custom GPTs for internal teams. As a Senior Associate Software Engineer you will design, develop and deploy secure, scalable AI agents and Custom GPTs on enterprise AI platforms, drive adoption across organizations and partner with cross-functional teams and senior leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy LLM-powered agents and Custom GPTs on ChatGPT Enterprise using RAG pipelines, app integration and prompt engineering
• Contribute to the roadmap via MCP-based apps, ChatGPT skills, plugins and workspace agents
• Build scalable RAG pipelines grounded in trusted enterprise data
• Create integration layers and event-driven orchestrations with N8N (webhooks, nodes, APIs) and human-in-the-loop steps
• Evaluate emerging models, platforms and frameworks such as OpenAI, Databricks, LangChain/LangGraph and AWS AI services
• Ensure compliance with data privacy, security and regulatory standards
• Implement automated evaluation, regression testing, tracing and monitoring of retrieval, context, response quality, safety, latency and cost
• Work with product owners, data engineers, platform and DevOps teams and business SMEs, and produce design documents, runbooks and handover materials
• Support junior engineers and share reusable patterns and best practices for GenAI adoption

Required profile

• Master's degree with 4+ years, or Bachelor's degree with 6+ years, in Computer Science, IT or a related field
• 4+ years of professional experience in software development and system design
• 2+ years building and deploying Generative AI applications, assistants or Custom GPTs in production (OpenAI preferred)
• 2+ years building cloud-native solutions, preferably on AWS (Bedrock, Lambda, EKS)
• 2+ years with vector databases, embedding models and RAG pipelines
• Experience with secure RESTful integrations (API gateways, OAuth, service identities) and AI-assisted coding tools (Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot)
• 2+ years building web applications with TypeScript, React and Next.js, and CI/CD
• Preferred: Power Automate, UiPath, Tableau, JIRA, Smartsheet, GxP experience and regulated industry background

What we offer

• Base salary of 92,662.75 to 125,367.25 CAD
