Senior Full Stack Engineer

About the role

Viamo, a digital platform connecting organisations to users in emerging markets, is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer for a permanent, full-time remote position within Canada. You will build, maintain and scale a large-scale platform handling millions of voice and SMS interactions per month, and help innovate and scale GenAI and language AI voice technologies for low-resource languages. The role suits someone with many years of experience building across all layers of web applications, comfortable with both legacy codebases and greenfield projects.

Key responsibilities

• Create scalable software solutions, collaborating with team members to drive them to completion
• Lead planning: review requirements, give realistic estimates and work with Technical Project Managers to turn them into tasks
• Contribute to design from a developer's perspective and keep work estimates visible so the team stays up to date
• Balance quick fixes with long-term quality, following consistent coding patterns
• Collaborate across engineering, QA and infrastructure, unblocking colleagues and helping the team become smarter and more productive each sprint
• Take turns as the go-to engineer for production issues across voice, SMS and AI, making systems more observable, resilient and safe to deploy
• Optional: manage and support colleagues' professional development

Required profile

• Web app development experience across all layers of the application
• API development experience with scalable, well-documented, developer-friendly APIs
• Ability to balance speed and quality, and to build scalable solutions using queues, caches and design patterns
• Proactive, continuous communication with the team
• Openness to different approaches and to supporting designers on both ends of the spectrum
• Legally entitled to work in Canada; availability to start as soon as possible is prioritised

Required skills

• Desirable: LLM, speech-to-text and text-to-speech experience (e.g. IVR)
• Desirable: telephony and VoIP experience
