Senior Analytics Engineer - Claims Data

About the role

Aviva Canada is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join the Claims Data and Insights team within Finance. The role suits a hands-on individual contributor who delivers data solutions end to end, works closely with the team supporting the Qlik environment and contributes to the migration to Snowflake. The position is based in Markham and offers a hybrid flexible work model.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimize scalable data pipelines and analytical datasets using Snowflake and Qlik.
• Own end-to-end delivery of data solutions, from requirements through implementation and support.
• Define and apply best practices for data modeling, performance optimization and cost-efficient architecture in Snowflake.
• Automate data ingestion and transformation workflows, integrating data from multiple source systems.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline and reporting issues to ensure reliability, performance and availability.
• Work with claims operations, analytics and actuarial teams to understand claims workflows and turn business needs into robust data solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in data engineering, analytics or a related technical role.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative but able to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with a focus on results.
• Hands-on experience building, maintaining and debugging ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Nice to have: familiarity with P&C insurance and claims data.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience on complex data models.
• Cloud data warehouse experience (Snowflake preferred).
