Data Engineer - AWS, Snowflake, DBT

About the role

Aviva Canada is looking for a collaborative and resourceful Data Engineer for its IT Data Platform Engineering Delivery team, within the Information Technology Enterprise Data Services Group. The role leads the architecture, design, analysis and implementation of data solutions in a fast-paced environment, applying expertise in both modern and legacy data platforms to build data ecosystems aligned with Aviva's enterprise architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operationalize large-scale enterprise data solutions in AWS and Snowflake.
• Design and develop ETL pipelines that ingest data from files, mainframes, relational sources, NoSQL and Hadoop into the cloud using Python and DBT.
• Design, schedule and manage data workflows with Apache Airflow, including DAG creation, task orchestration and performance monitoring.
• Develop solution designs for data acquisition and ingestion, data integration and data warehouse/mart development.
• Promote data catalogs, data governance and data quality practices.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• 5+ years of experience building solutions for cloud, data lakes, data integrations and data warehouses/marts.
• Hands-on experience with automated workflows and system operations using Python and Apache Airflow.
• Experience implementing data governance principles and familiarity with Agile development.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; insurance knowledge is an asset.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AWS, Snowflake, Python and DBT.
• Strong ETL/ELT development experience.
