Semantic Model Developer (Power BI, SSAS Tabular, DAX)

About the role

Synechron, a global consulting firm covering AI, cloud, data and software engineering, is hiring a Semantic Model Developer in Mississauga, Ontario. The role designs, develops, optimizes and maintains enterprise-grade semantic models, analytical cubes, reports and dashboards, turning complex banking and financial-reporting requirements into scalable, governed and high-performing analytical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Power BI semantic models, SSAS tabular models and multidimensional OLAP cubes
• Build reusable model components (tables, relationships, measures, hierarchies, metadata) and complex DAX, including time intelligence and calculation groups
• Develop MDX calculations and maintain data lineage from source systems to reports
• Design dimensional data models (star and snowflake schemas) and work with data warehouses, data marts and cloud platforms
• Modernize legacy cubes and reporting models into Power BI or tabular semantic models
• Build Power BI reports and dashboards, use Power Query and M, and configure import, DirectQuery, composite and live connections
• Manage scheduled refreshes, gateways, permissions and deployment across development, testing, UAT and production
• Optimize semantic models, DAX, SQL queries and refresh processes, and resolve production issues

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in business intelligence, data warehousing, analytics, data modelling or reporting
• Demonstrated experience in banking or financial services
• Located in Canada or authorized to work in Canada
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and documentation skills

Required skills

• Advanced DAX and strong MDX
• SSAS Tabular, Azure Analysis Services, and preferably SSAS Multidimensional or OLAP cubes
• Advanced SQL and T-SQL
• Dimensional modelling, Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service
• ETL/ELT tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory or equivalent
• Data security (row-level security, role-based access)

Preferred but not required: Power BI certification (e.g. PL-300), SQL Server, Azure or Fabric certifications, experience with Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse or Fabric, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, calculation groups, incremental refresh, CI/CD pipelines, and migration of SSAS cubes to Power BI.
