Self Checkout Attendant

About the role

Join Walmart Canada as a Self Checkout Attendant and help ensure a smooth, positive shopping experience for customers using the self‑service checkout area. You will maintain a clean, organized environment and assist shoppers with transactions and any questions they may have.

Key responsibilities

• Keep the self‑checkout area neat, clean and free of debris, liquids and foreign objects.
• Educate customers on the correct and efficient use of self‑service checkout options.
• Promote sponsor programs such as credit‑card services, product protection and charitable initiatives when applicable.
• Observe customers, determine when assistance is needed, and intervene politely with quality checks.
• Explain interventions and reassure customers that periodic checks are normal protocol.
• Respond to EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) alarms and complete the “Failure to Deactivate” log.
• Notify the Customer Service Manager when the area is low on cash or experiences technical issues.
• Return Scan & Go scanners to their home after use.

Profile sought

• Age 16 years or older.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to communicate clearly.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced retail environment.

Required skills

• Operation of self‑checkout systems.
• Cash handling and POS transaction processing.
• Response to EAS alarms and basic troubleshooting.
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
