About the role
This position provides secretarial and administrative support to a multidisciplinary health‑care team, ensuring smooth communication between patients, families, clinicians and external partners. The role contributes to a safe and respectful environment for all stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Answer and triage incoming calls, determine urgency, and relay information to clinical staff or external facilities.
- Coordinate patient appointments and diagnostic tests in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Access the patient information system to retrieve and update patient data as needed.
- Greet visitors, manage enquiries, and arrange meetings or conferences, including agenda preparation and minute taking.
- Prepare, format, and distribute correspondence, reports, and research or grant documents.
- Assist clinicians with scheduling, time‑keeping, and coverage planning.
- Perform other related administrative duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Grade 12 and graduation from a recognized secretarial program, including a course in medical transcription.
- At least three years of recent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous peoples and a commitment to cultural safety, anti‑racism, and equity in health‑care.
- Familiarity with legislative and provincial commitments relevant to BC Cancer, such as the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and UNDRIP.
