Restaurant Assistant Manager

About the role

The Subway Sandwiches & Salads location in Ottawa is seeking a proactive Assistant Manager to support daily restaurant operations and drive profitability. You will work closely with the Restaurant Manager to oversee staff, manage budgets, and ensure excellent customer service in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and develop budgets ranging from $500k to $1.5M, monitoring food, labor, and supply costs.
• Plan, organize, and supervise daily restaurant operations, including inventory control and cash handling.
• Recruit, schedule, train, and evaluate a team of 5‑10 staff members.
• Adjust menu pricing and food preparation methods to align with budget targets.
• Negotiate with suppliers and handle catering client arrangements.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
• Address customer complaints, provide service, and support event management.
• Prepare financial reports, balance sheets, and cash reports.

Required profile

• Secondary school graduation (high school diploma) required.
• 3 to less than 5 years of experience in restaurant or food‑service management.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and handle physically demanding tasks.
• Clear criminal record check and willingness to undergo background screening.
• Public transportation accessibility and flexibility for early‑morning, evening, day, weekend, and on‑call shifts.
