Respiratory Therapist (Casual)

About the role

The Wellington Health Care Alliance is seeking a casual Respiratory Therapist to join the team at Palmerston & District Hospital. This clinical role involves providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings while supporting day‑to‑day service operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, treat, educate, and manage patients with respiratory conditions.
• Deliver care in outpatient clinics and acute‑care units.
• Oversee daily service operations and provide staff support.
• Perform delegated educational and administrative activities.
• Maintain up‑to‑date professional knowledge through continuous education.

Required profile

• Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an approved school.
• Current Certificate of Competence with the CRTO.
• Current BCLS and NRP certification (essential); PALS and ACLS preferred.
• Certified Respiratory Educator certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of core respiratory therapy competencies and hospital policies.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and adherence to professional standards.
• Excellent patient‑focused care, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities.
