Research Assistant/Technician 3 – Molecular Biology & NGS

About the role

The School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC seeks a Research Assistant/Technician 3 to perform complex technical tasks in molecular biology and next‑generation sequencing, providing essential services across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Designs, modifies and performs experiments related to next generation sequencing (NGS) pipelines.
• Troubleshoots potential instrument failures involving liquid handling instruments, Illumina NGS instruments and single‑cell platforms (10X Genomics Chromium).
• Operates and maintains NGS equipment, including loading of samples and reagents.
• Contributes to the development of operating procedures and recommends workflow improvements.
• Oversees project progress and participates in research activities.

Required profile

• Completion of a relevant technical program or university degree in a related discipline.
• Minimum three years of related experience in molecular biology and NGS techniques.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
