Research Associate – Neuroscience (Full‑time)

About the role
The Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia seeks a full‑time Research Associate to join Dr. Mark Cembrowski’s laboratory. This six‑month fixed‑term position (Jan 1 – Jun 30 2027) supports independent and collaborative neuroscience research.
Key responsibilities
- Perform electrophysiological recordings of brain tissue.
- Conduct viral circuit mapping and manipulation in brain tissue.
- Process histology samples and carry out microscopic analyses.
- Coordinate with Vancouver General Hospital surgical teams and manage material transfers.
- Monitor and order reagents and supplies.
- Document research findings, write manuscripts and grant applications.
- Train students and technicians and maintain accurate lab records.
Required profile
- Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in neuroscience or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated scientific productivity with peer‑reviewed publications.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and scientific communication skills.
Required skills
- Electrophysiological recording techniques.
- Viral circuit mapping and manipulation.
- Histological processing and microscopy.
- Interfacing with surgical teams and material coordination.
- Reagent monitoring and procurement.
- Scientific writing and data documentation.
