About the role
Olymel is seeking a Journeyperson/Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) to join its permanent maintenance team in Red Deer. You will work the evening shift, troubleshooting and maintaining a wide range of equipment in a large meat‑processing plant.
Key responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and schematics to plan work.
- Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Adjust, replace or fabricate parts such as bearings, shafts, seals and valves.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, slicers, grinders, mixers and packaging equipment.
- Apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and follow safety and food‑safety protocols.
- Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to coordinate repairs and ensure timely start‑up.
- Test, calibrate and verify equipment performance after service.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in continuous‑improvement projects to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
Required profile
- Alberta Journeyman or Inter‑Provincial Red Seal certification.
- At least 2 years recent experience in the trade or food‑processing industry.
- Physically capable of performing the duties.
- Available to work the evening shift (14:00‑23:30).
- Fluent in English with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Required skills
- Blueprint and schematic interpretation.
- Mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Machine‑tool operation for part fabrication.
- Preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
