Public Relations Intern (External Communications) - Winter 2027

About the role

EQ Bank is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented co-op student to join its Public Relations and Communications team for a winter term from January to April 2027. The intern supports corporate communications, media relations, executive communications and reputation management, working closely with communications professionals and business partners on campaigns, announcements, thought leadership, media relations and executive programs.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor bank brands, campaigns, executives and competitors through Meltwater, tag and clean coverage data, and prepare quarterly media reports and decks for Investor Relations, the Board and internal use
• Draft first-pass LinkedIn copy, support internal amplification on Viva Engage and Teams, and coordinate approvals with Marketing, Legal and Compliance
• Build first-draft slides for campaign proposals and reports, pull supporting material and format them to brand templates
• Maintain run-of-show documents and trackers, take meeting notes and follow up on deliverables
• Research journalists and outlets, track awards, speaking opportunities and editorial calendars, and support executive briefing notes
• Support briefs and first-pass edits for sponsored content, and track stakeholder feedback and timelines

Required profile

• Degree or diploma, or currently studying PR, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or a related field
• Strong grasp of grammar, clarity and attention to detail; able to write concise summaries and social copy
• Interest in business, media and current events
• Able to manage multiple projects and timelines, and to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
• Willing to work in the office at least three days a week

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel
• Familiarity with Meltwater and Canadian Press style are assets
• Familiarity with AI agents is a major asset
