Program Assistant

About the role

The Program Assistant works under the direction of the Chair of the Physics/Trottier Space Institute Outreach Committee to support four key outreach programs. This role involves organizing events, coordinating volunteers, and managing program logistics to promote physics and astronomy to the public and schools.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing the Public Lecture Series, including speaker outreach, scheduling, volunteer coordination, and post‑event surveys.
• Develop materials, recruit and train mentors, and organize the Science in Space program for elementary schools.
• Lead the planning committee for the McGill Physics Hackathon, handling venue selection, catering, sponsorship, advertising, social media, judging, awards, and volunteer management.
• Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for the Space Explorers program, and coordinate visits with primary schools and teachers.

Required profile

• Strong organizational and event‑planning abilities.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with speakers, volunteers, teachers, and the public.
• Interest in physics outreach and education.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a university committee.
