About the role
The Buyer will manage procurement activities for assigned faculties and administrative units at UBC, ensuring that purchasing processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with university policies. This customer‑focused role acts as a key liaison between faculty staff, suppliers, and internal procurement partners.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate end‑to‑end procurement for the assigned faculty/admin unit, from requisition to payment.
- Provide guidance on procurement policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Review service requests, triage issues, and facilitate timely processing.
- Resolve problems with end users and suppliers, researching alternatives and action plans.
- Collaborate closely with Procurement Partners to ensure client needs are met and communication is consistent.
- Maintain strong working relationships with faculty, administrative staff, and other university stakeholders.
Required profile
- Strong customer‑service orientation with the ability to build effective relationships.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply procurement policies and procedures.
- Detail‑oriented and capable of managing multiple requests simultaneously.
Required skills
- Knowledge of procure‑to‑pay processes.
- Familiarity with university or large‑organization procurement environments.
