About the role
Huawei Canada’s Graphics Technology Lab is seeking a researcher for a 12‑month contract to advance procedural graphics and visual‑effects shaders. The role combines algorithmic research with hands‑on implementation to push the limits of mobile graphics performance and visual quality.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement visual‑effects shaders and procedural textures/geometry from the ground up.
- Create graphics demos and technology prototypes that validate novel algorithmic techniques.
- Optimize mobile graphics pipelines to reduce power consumption while maximizing performance.
- Build custom tools that streamline and automate the shading creation workflow.
Required profile
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science.
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in high‑end shading and graphics development.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating sophisticated procedural graphics (e.g., ShaderToy demos).
- Deep mathematical background covering linear algebra, geometry processing, differential geometry, and numerical optimization.
- Research contributions to conferences such as SIGGRAPH, Eurographics, or JCGT are highly valued.
Required skills
- Graphics APIs: OpenGL, Vulkan (WebGPU a plus).
- Shader languages: GLSL, GLES (SLANG a plus).
- Programming languages: C++, Python.
- Algorithm design: procedural generation, spatial data structures, acceleration and optimization techniques.
