Power Engineer – Thermal Energy Plants

About the role

The Power Engineer (EWS) supports the safe and efficient operation of UBC's Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility and Campus Energy Centre. Working under senior engineering leadership, the role involves assisting with plant operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diverse thermal energy systems.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Shift Team Leader in operating and monitoring thermal energy plants, including gas‑oil and biomass boilers.
• Support routine maintenance, service, and repair of fuel handling, boiler, and auxiliary systems.
• Operate combustion and process control equipment, internal combustion engines, and power synchronization systems.
• Manage ash handling and disposal processes in compliance with safety regulations.
• Follow provincial regulations, UBC policies, and plant operating instructions.

Required profile

• Relevant technical education or experience in power/thermal plant operations.
• Ability to work as an assistant shift or engineer under the Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation.
• Commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and operational excellence.
