Postdoctoral Fellowship in Technology, Law & Society

About the role

The Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC invites an early‑career scholar to join as a Postdoctoral Fellow focusing on the intersection of technology, law and society. The two‑year, applicant‑driven fellowship supports independent research that advances understanding of how emerging technologies are governed and how law shapes digital life.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an original research agenda on topics such as AI, privacy, cybersecurity, platform regulation, digital rights, intellectual property, and computational law.
• Produce scholarly publications, conference papers, and policy briefs that contribute to the law‑technology discourse.
• Potentially teach a course or seminar, sharing expertise with law students and graduate scholars.
• Collaborate with faculty, external partners, and interdisciplinary research groups within the university.

Required profile

• Holds a JD, LLB, or equivalent law degree.
• Completed or substantially completed a doctoral degree in law or a related discipline within the past five years.
• Demonstrated early‑career scholarly record with publications and a strong research proposal.
• Has not held more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship and is not currently on leave from a faculty position.

• No specific technical tools are mandated; the focus is on interdisciplinary legal research and analytical ability.
