Part-Time Hospital Porter

About the role

The Hospital Porter provides essential support by moving patients, specimens, equipment, mail and linen throughout the facility. This part‑time position focuses on safe work practices, high‑quality service and excellent customer interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Transport patients to diagnostic tests and between inpatient units.
• Move specimens, medical equipment, mail and other materials across the hospital.
• Stock and deliver linen supplies to appropriate areas.
• Follow safe lifting practices and use lift equipment when required.
• Participate in in‑services, safety programs and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
• WHMIS training completed.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interact tactfully with patients, visitors, staff and volunteers.
• Good decision‑making, problem‑solving and flexibility.
• Physical ability to perform moderately heavy work, including lifting, walking, standing, bending, pushing and pulling.
• Reliability, good attendance and availability for varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• WHMIS certification.
• Computer literacy (word processing, email, spreadsheets).
• Operation of portable phones and response to overhead paging.
• Use of lift equipment for heavy items.
