Ophthalmologist – Hospital Staff Position

About the role

The Government of Northwest Territories seeks a qualified ophthalmologist to join its hospital staff in Yellowknife. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive eye care, including medical and surgical services, to the territory’s residents.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver ophthalmology consultations, diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Perform ophthalmic surgeries and procedures as required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary hospital teams.
• Maintain accurate patient records and comply with provincial licensing standards.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and emergency eye care.

Required profile

• Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry.
• Certification through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Examination.
• Licensure by the Northwest Territories or other provincial/territorial authority.
• Specialization in ophthalmology surgery.
• Willingness to relocate; relocation costs covered by the employer.
• Ability to pass a criminal record check.
