On‑site Building Attendant – Residential Housing

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a reliable Building Attendant to live on‑site and support its City Housing properties. The role involves ensuring security, providing tenant assistance, and performing light maintenance and housekeeping duties. This position is essential to maintaining safe and welcoming residential environments.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the master keyholder, assisting tenants locked out and granting access to emergency services, contractors, and service personnel.
• Monitor fire alarm and life‑safety systems, respond to emergencies, record findings and report irregularities.
• Show apartments to prospective tenants and handle lock‑ups, lock changes, and building openings.
• Inspect the building for deficiencies, vandalism, or security issues and report them to the Supervisor or Police.
• Deliver letters, notices, and forms to tenants and maintain general building security.
• Perform light housekeeping, including cleaning spills, broken glass, and seasonal sidewalk maintenance.
• Carry out minor repairs such as toilet plunging, water shut‑offs, and drain clearing.

Required profile

• Previous maintenance and customer‑service experience in a residential or similar setting.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with tenants, contractors, and emergency personnel.
• Physical capability to perform light housekeeping, walk multiple flights of stairs, and handle on‑call rotations including evenings and weekends.
• Willingness to obtain a satisfactory criminal records check prior to employment.
