On‑Call Social Navigator & Intake Worker (Shelter)

About the role

Wasauksing First Nation is seeking compassionate, self‑driven individuals to join its emergency shelter team as an On‑Call Social Navigator & Intake Worker. Working under the Housing Manager, you will be the first point of contact for Indigenous residents and shelter guests, providing intake, crisis counselling and referrals during evenings, nights and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a warm, respectful, non‑judgmental environment for staff, volunteers and guests.
• Interview clients individually or with families to assess needs, determine eligibility and coordinate services.
• Provide informal crisis counselling, develop safety plans and make appropriate referrals.
• Complete intake registration, service requests, referrals and maintain accurate records.
• Conduct bag, purse and pocket checks, give facility tours and enforce housekeeping policies.
• Coordinate donation deliveries, seek partnership opportunities and manage supply needs.
• Participate in program development, incident investigations and documentation as required.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in social work, counselling psychology, social services or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 2–3 years front‑line social service delivery experience.
• Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is an asset.
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are assets.
• First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Food Safety Level 1, Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Prevention and Trauma‑Informed Care training are desirable.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Required skills

• Strong computer literacy in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook).
