Nurse Clinician – POCT & Phlebotomy

About the role
The Nurse Clinician, Clinical Laboratory Point of Care Testing (POCT) & Phlebotomy provides specialized clinical and operational support for POCT and phlebotomy across all Providence Health Care sites. Acting as the primary liaison between the laboratory and clinical areas, the role ensures bedside testing and specimen collection meet laboratory standards, accreditation requirements, and provincial quality expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the clinical resource for best practices in venipuncture, capillary collection, patient identification, and specimen integrity.
- Collaborate with Laboratory Pre‑ and Post‑Accessioning leadership to ensure full compliance with Diagnostic Accreditation Program (DAP) standards and organizational policies.
- Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of POCT policies, procedures, job aids, and training materials.
- Participate in validation, verification, and quality review of new POCT devices and testing methodologies.
- Conduct routine audits of POCT and phlebotomy practices to maintain quality and safety.
- Provide education and training to clinical staff across acute, ambulatory, long‑term care, and community settings.
Required profile
- Registered Nurse with current licensure in British Columbia.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical laboratory, point‑of‑care testing, and phlebotomy.
- Knowledge of DAP standards, provincial laboratory regulations, and quality assurance processes.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to work across diverse care settings and support a 24/7 multidisciplinary team.
