Medical Geographer – Research Assistant

About the role

This Research Assistant position will provide research‑oriented support to projects focused on understanding the epidemiology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and its environmental determinants. The role involves assisting with IBD research studies and related tasks under the guidance of Dr. K. Jacobson.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with REB protocol development and submission.
• Request and manage health administrative databases (e.g., PopDataBC, CANUE).
• Perform data acquisition, cleaning, coding, and statistical analysis.
• Write reports, prepare manuscripts, and support grant‑writing activities.
• Conduct literature searches, compile annotated bibliographies, and prepare presentations.
• Provide administrative support to IBD program projects and trainees.

Required profile

• Completion of a relevant technical program or university degree with at least three years of related experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Required skills

• Expertise in geo‑spatial mapping.
• Data validation and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience using SAS and R for data analysis.
• Competence in online literature search tools.
