Mechanical Engineer – Excitation Systems

About the role

ABB is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop and deliver mechanical solutions for excitation systems. You will work from concept through manufacturing, testing and installation, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical solutions for excitation systems, covering structural support, thermal management, piping, vibration/seismic requirements and magnetic interference mitigation.
• Support sales by reviewing specifications, safety standards and technical requirements, and preparing cost estimates and proposal deliverables.
• Execute mechanical deliverables on time, within budget and in compliance with specifications, industry standards and safety guidelines.
• Conduct site audits to gather installation data, validate customer information and identify design constraints.
• Convert electrical design inputs into cabinet layouts, mechanical assemblies and installation drawings based on site conditions.
• Select mechanical components per standards, prepare detailed manufacturing drawings and complete documentation packages.
• Provide technical support to production, purchasing and testing while contributing to product standardisation and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with current OIQ membership (or in progress).
• Valid passport for occasional travel to customer sites.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with electro‑mechanical cabinets, sheet‑metal and structural suppliers.
• Strong focus on safety and adherence to workplace safety guidelines.
• Fluent in French (required) and English (required) for communication with customers.
