Mechanical Design Engineer, Motors

About the role
This position supports the development of high‑performance Tesla motors, driving design and manufacturing activities that scale motor production to high volume. You will work alongside mechanical, electrical, and electromagnetic engineers in a collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities
- Design and industrialize stators for integration into Tesla powertrains.
- Collaborate with electromagnetic motor designers and actuator engineers to create bespoke motor solutions.
- Continuously improve existing designs to reduce cost, boost performance, and enhance reliability.
- Prototype, test, and troubleshoot electric motors, including basic fabrication, machining, wiring, and electronics debugging.
- Work with supply‑chain, vendors, and manufacturing engineers on pilot production assembly, process improvement, and quality assurance.
Required profile
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product design and manufacturing.
- Hands‑on experience with motor design for actuators, stator/rotor prototyping, and gear‑driven actuators.
- Familiarity with assembly, quality‑control processes, and machine‑shop environments (hand tools, metrology equipment, mill/lathe operation).
- Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, and FEA.

- 3DX (Catia) and SolidWorks.
