Mechanical Design & Automation Engineer

About the role

Relocalize is seeking a Mechanical Design & Automation Engineer to join its engineering team and help build autonomous food‑and‑beverage micro‑factories. Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, you will own product development, operate prototype systems on‑site, and translate learnings into iterative design improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with leadership and product teams to align on company targets.
• Travel up to one week per month across Canada and the USA to support Relo factories.
• Design, test, and integrate mechanical and automation improvements based on field observations.
• Conduct market and customer research to inform the automation and machine‑learning roadmap.
• Work hands‑on with technicians to operate, troubleshoot, and refine the platform.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 3 years of direct experience in engineering, automation, and industrial robotics integration.
• Willingness to travel up to one week per month within Canada and the USA.

Required skills

• Advanced mechanical design using modern CAD tools (Onshape is a major asset).
• Experience with structural steel design and multidisciplinary analysis (thermal, structural, kinematic).
• Hands‑on experience designing, building, and deploying automated systems.
• Familiarity with industrial robotics platforms such as ABB, KUKA, or FANUC; strong ABB RobotStudio simulation skills are a plus.
