Manager of Technical & Design Services

About the role

The Manager of Technical and Design Services leads the design, production, and facility management of exhibitions and visual presentations at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery and its off‑site locations. Reporting to Gallery leadership, this role collaborates closely with curators, artists, and university partners to deliver high‑quality, museum‑standard experiences for visitors and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Design and oversee the production of two‑ and three‑dimensional, audio‑visual, and interactive exhibitions.
• Work directly with curators and artists to develop exhibition plans, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Manage technical planning, budgeting, scheduling, and procurement for approved exhibition concepts.
• Maintain and improve the Gallery’s building systems, including environmental controls, IT infrastructure, security, and general maintenance.
• Liaise with UBC departments to ensure compliance with museum standards and support safe, accessible facilities.
• Contribute to long‑term facility planning and capital project initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in exhibition design, production management, or museum technical services.
• Strong project management abilities with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Excellent collaboration skills for working with curators, artists, and cross‑functional university teams.
• Knowledge of museum‑standard operations, environmental controls, and security systems.
