Legal Counsel – Video Game Industry

About the role

Ubisoft's Vantage Studios in Montreal is seeking a Legal Counsel to support three flagship franchises: Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. You will act as the primary legal partner for creative and business teams, guiding projects from concept through live operations and future expansions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance on game production, live services, diversification, and new experiences.
• Draft, negotiate, and secure a wide range of agreements (services, licenses, distribution, partnerships) in both French and English.
• Offer pragmatic and strategic advice in a fast‑paced, fluid environment, supporting decision‑making across teams.
• Train and empower studio staff on IP, contracts, and risk awareness with a business‑oriented approach.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with senior stakeholders and contribute to global projects, including travel between Montreal and Paris.
• Assist in managing pre‑litigation matters in coordination with external counsel.
• Monitor legal, regulatory, and technological developments affecting Ubisoft and the video‑game industry.

Required profile

• Strong background in contract law within media, entertainment, technology, or video‑games.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for high‑level stakeholders.
• Autonomous, accountable, proactive, and pragmatic approach to case management.
• Strategic, analytical mindset with the ability to prioritize and adapt to change.
• Outstanding negotiation and interpersonal abilities, comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Genuine curiosity for video‑game franchises, genres, and production dynamics.
• Professional proficiency in both French and English.
